August Through October Events

Not only is the season flying by, our members supported three events aleady this summer! We're delighted that our special community seminar, 'Saving Our Teens' on Flag Day, was a huge success, with a video airing frequently on Westford Cable Access TV. Many thanks to the 133 participants, and all those who donated their time and materials to make it happen. See the flyer for our June 14 event. Check back later for a story providing the details. We're also grateful to Cabot, our EMT who ran Chelmsford's monthly blood pressure clinic on July 5, and eight ohter MRC volunteers who supported this year's 'Live for Liv' event to support domestic violence prevention on July 15.

This information is current as of July 26. To sign up, please send e-mail to nburns@westfordma.gov or call 978-399-2549.

All MRCs are urged to become 'NIMS-compliant' by training in the Incident Command System and the National Incident Management System. Our unit asks its volunteers to complete ICS-100 and NIMS-700 as soon as possible after joining the UMV MRC, and e-mailing their course completion certificates to the Coordinator for our files. The material is appropriate for all levels of membership. As an extra benefit, EMTs and nurses are eligible for free CEUs for completing these courses. Occasionallly we also offer the classroom version, though none are scheduled for the near future.

If you have not yet taken either class, then please click on these links for the self-study materials:

Each course usually takes less than three hours to finish. Be sure to PRINT the final exam and note your answers on the hardcopy, before entering your choices into the system, to avoid a risk of the system timing out while you're taking the test. Volunteers who certify in ICS/NIMS help to improve our unit's skill in deployments. Shared knowledge of protocols and terminology allow us to interact effectively with our response partners. The courses also provide medical volunteers with free continuing education credits.
