I. HEALTH FAIRS / COMMUNITY SERVICE
All members are eligible to help with staffing our MRC displays at coming events. This is a great way for new volunteers to meet their fellow members and interact with the public we serve.

Upcoming UMV MRC Event Support
Billerica Our members are invited to staff the MRC display at the annual Yankee Doodle Homecoming Weekend, which takes place on Saturday, September 14, from
11 a.m. (after the parade ends) to 5 p.m. Location is near the entrance to Billerica's Fire Department, behind Town Hall at 365 Boston Road (Rt. 3A). Seeking volunteers for shifts from 11 to 2 and 2 to 5. We encourage both medical and non-medical members to sign up for this major regional fair.
Click here for details about the overall event.
Westford We're seeking volunteers to screen visitors for hypertension, oversee 'Let's Move!' fitness activities to combat childhood obesity, and provide flu shots during a wellness fair on Saturday, October 5, at the Emerson Hospital Health Center, 133 Littleton Road (Rt.110). Participants can help throughout the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or cover smaller shifts from 9 to 11:30 and 11:30 to 2.
Westford Both medical and non-medical members are encouraged to help during the Volunteer Fair on Saturday, October 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Roudenbush Community Center on Main Street, Seeking members to represent the unit and answer questions, as well as encourage interested applicants to join the MRC.
Westford
Members are needed to provide administrative support at the Little Iguana Safety Event on Wednesday, November 20, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

II. MEMBER APPRECIATION
Each year we celebrate the involvement of members who have been active in the unit since our last appreciation dinner. If you have helped at a health fair, supported a flu clinic, responded to a deployment, or otherwise been engaged in a UMV MRC activity over the past year, you should have received an invitation to this event via postal mail by early September.

III. FLU CLINICS
Our unit is invited to support flu clinics throughout the fall, across the Upper Merrimack Valley. Keep checking the web site and monitor your e-mail, as we learn of the dates and venues at which our service is requested. Flu clinic season typically runs from mid-September through early December. The first scheduled clinic of the season is at the Franco-American Club in Westford on Wednesday, September 25. See the table at the top of this web page for the most current dates and times. More clinics are expected, and both medical and non-medical volunteers are needed.

IV. EDUCATION
Thanks to grant funding that was recently awarded to our unit, we are offering a kickoff course on Shelter Training for MRC Responders on Tuesday, October 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. Additional courses will follow. The UMV MRC is developing the pilot curriculum to form shelter response teams.

This year's special Training Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once again we are grateful to the Homeland Security Program at Middlesex Community College for hosting this year's event. The venue is their Bedford Campus at 591 Springs Road. Look for details on this web site and in your next newsletter. The event is free to all our volunteers, as a benefit of membership, and includes continuing education credits (CEUs and OEMS hours) for medical attendees.
