We hope you are enjoying foliage season and gearing up for the year-end holidays! Thank you to the many volunteers who have served through our unit recently — at the Baystate Marathon, across several flu clinics and community fairs, and in the Healthcare Providers CPR class. If you did not receive your October newsletter, then please contact us right away so we can send you a copy.

SAVE THE DATE! We've verified with our host that the next UMV MRC Training Day will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, once again at Middlesex Community College in Bedford. More details will be provided as the date draws closer. Meanwhile, please mark your calenders.

All of the nursing positions at our remaining flu clinics are now full. We'd welcome non-medical support at the final clinics of the year in Chelmsford and Westford. In addition, there are spaces left for participants in our First Aid class (11/5) and the Psychological First Aid seminar (12/1).

Refer to the table provided below, and revisit this page often for details. This information is current as of

III. ONLINE ICS:

ICS/NIMS SELF-STUDY
All MRCs are urged to become 'NIMS-compliant' by training in the Incident Command System and the National Incident Management System. Our unit asks its volunteers to complete ICS-100 and NIMS-700 as soon as possible after joining the UMV MRC, and e-mailing their course completion certificates to the Coordinator for our files. If you have not yet completed these courses, then please click on these links for the self-study materials:

http://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-100.b

http://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-700.a

Each course usually takes less than three hours to finish. Be sure to PRINT the final exam and note your answers on the hardcopy, before entering your choices into the system, to avoid a risk of the system timing out while you're taking the test. Volunteers who certify in ICS/NIMS help to improve our unit's skill in deployments. Shared knowledge of protocols and terminology allow us to interact effectively with our response partners. The courses also provide medical volunteers with free continuing education credits.
